Our partner was challenged to develop a system capable of packaging and labelling garlic heads efficiently. Traditionally, garlic is packed into fruit nets with an overprinted printed tag attached to the closure. This tag forms an integral part of the packaging and displays key product information like ‘country of origin’ and ‘best before’ date.
However, the packaging and labelling process is particularly intricate. It requires highly accurate tags, manufactured in a customised shape which must work effortlessly with an automated packaging system.
Knowing that Piroto specialises in technical labelling applications, and has extensive experience in the food industry, we were the obvious label partner to take on this challenge.
The Piroto team were delighted to get involved. First, we focused on fully understanding how the net tag application process worked.
We identified that the tag needed to be integrated into the metal clip that seals the fruit net and crucially, this had to happen in a single automated process. As a result, our technical team set about designing a precise tag shape that would perform flawlessly within the system.
Our technical team specified a robust tag material to prevent the risk of snapping. In addition, the material ensured that the tag could withstand the mechanical demands of the application process without compromising quality.
To guarantee a seamless packaging and integrated labelling process for the end customer, the net tags were rigorously tested prior to full roll-out.
