Sustainable labels & tags

water dispersible label

Water soluble labels: are a great option if you use reusable packaging containers (RPCs) throughout your operation.

Water soluble labels are designed to completely break down in water. Furthermore, the tiny particles of waste that are left after the labels disperse are ultimately biodegradable. That makes water soluble labels a sustainable alternative.

Recyclable labels & tags: labels, although often a small overall proportion of your product packaging, can either aid or hinder its overall recyclability. It is important therefore to match the label substrate to the packaging to make recycling easy for the consumer.

Talk to us about how to combine your product label with your packaging to achieve the best environmental outcome.

Furthermore, the properties of the label adhesive should also be considered. Water washable labels, for example, have an adhesive that breaks down on contact with water thus aiding the commercial recycling process.

Up to100% recycled content labels & tags: whether you use synthetic or paper labels we can source materials containing recycled content. Both synthetic and paper label face materials are available with up to 100% post-consumed content for a more sustainable option.

Whilst labels with recycled content may not be suitable for food manufacturing environments, they are a sustainable label option for other sectors. Again, by reducing the use of virgin plastics in your labels you can contribute towards a more sustainable future.

Sustainable labels & tags

There is a growing demand from consumers for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the environment in every area of their business. When it comes to so called Scope 3 emissions ie all indirect carbon emissions, other than fuel, that occur up or downstream, we can help with more sustainable labels and tags.

Moreover, we can provide an EUDR (European Deforestation) due diligence report and certificate number for all fibre-based label materials. This is in line with legislation, effective on 31st December 2024.

There are opportunities to switch to more sustainable labels without affecting performance or budget. For example:

Labels from sustainable sources: we source label substrates certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®). By choosing FSC materials for your label you are supporting responsible management of the world’s forests.

Greener Alternatives

From FSC® certified label materials, recyclable substrates and backing papers, to label materials with post-consumed recycled content, we can find the right combination for your label.

There are many options now available to make your label more environmentally friendly and meet your Scope 3 targets. Talk to our experienced technical team about which materials are available and arrange a trial to test performance.

Label re-engineering

Could you reduce the size of your label without affecting legibility? Or redesign the shape of your tag to reduce waste? What about getting more labels on a roll to save on label cores, roll replacement time and even outer packaging? Test our roll calculator to see if you could benefit from more labels per roll.

There are many ways to reduce the raw material that goes into your label. A new approach could save money and the planet.

Lighter weight materials

There are many new label substrates and backing papers on the market that are high performance and lighter weight.

Think about the benefits of changing to a thinner label and backing material. Over a long label run lighter weight materials can save literally tonnes of raw material. In addition, savings on roll cores, outer cartons and transport costs all add up to a more sustainable label or tag.
